The European Digital Identity Regulation

The legal basis of RO Wallet, in brief.

  • Regulation (EU) No 910/2014, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 and known as eIDAS 2.0, sets the rules for a secure and interoperable digital identity system across the European Union.

  • At its heart are the European Digital Identity Wallets. With them, people and businesses can access services in any Member State, with personal data and privacy protected through secure digital identification.

  • The Regulation recognises your right to a digital identity that is yours alone to control, letting you exercise your rights online and take part in the digital economy. It also sets the rules for qualified trust service providers and the services they offer.

In short, the law gives you a right, not an obligation: the state must offer you the wallet, and you choose whether and when to use it.
