A secure framework for your digital identity

Through RO Wallet, Romania gives its citizens modern digital services, just like every other Member State. Citizens and residents prove their identity and manage their documents securely, under their own control. It's the first step towards a simpler, more transparent relationship between you and public institutions - one where you no longer chase documents; the documents come to you.

The project brings together public institutions, companies and technical and security partners, working side by side on secure infrastructure designed around the citizen.

The shared goal is for everything to work the same way across the European Union: a document issued in Romania should be just as valid and recognised in any other Member State, with no extra steps and no bureaucracy.

Timeline

Project stages

From the European legal framework to the phased national launch.

  1. 31 August 2026

    Phase 1

    GitHub repositories and public documentation become available, along with the RO Wallet presentation website. The application interface and user experience are defined.

  2. 31 October 2026

    Phase 2

    The RO Wallet TEST version becomes available. The Interoperability Test Bed (ITB) and the sandbox launch, with interoperability and cross-border testing.

  3. 22 December 2026

    Phase 3

    RO Wallet v1 (MVP) certification, tentatively, and a beta launch for a selected group: friends, families and invited users.

  4. 14 January 2027

    Phase 4

    Official launch of RO Wallet v1.
